Kathy Flanagan

A Colorado native, Kathy was raised in the Colorado Rockies. In 1970, the local 4-H club began to offer leather craft as a new project. Kathy jumped on it, and by her third year, she was winning trophies for her work. Eventually, she became a 4-H leader and still volunteers her time and talents as a leader today. In 2005, the Jefferson County 4-H Foundation recognized her with the "Outstanding 4-H Leader" award.

Al Stohlman has been Kathy's mentor through his instructional books for many years. Her focus has been figure and pictorial carving, obtaining inspiration from her natural, mountainous surroundings. In the 1990's, the Columbine Leather Guild became an important part of Kathy's life. At that point, she made a goal for herself to become a master of leather craft. In a few short years, she met that goal - with the help of many other masters such as Jim Linnell, George Hurst, Tony Laier, Robb Barr, Bob Beard, Bob Klenda, and Bill Gomer, to name a few. It was at this point that teaching became an important part of Kathy's life. As she teaches the leather craft, she continues to learn and grow with her students.

At the 2009 International Federation of Leather Guilds Show, Kathy was presented with the outstanding award of "Pathways to Masters" - which is her greatest achievement.
